You can be arrested during an identity check to verify if you have the right to stay in France and/or if you are suspected of breaking the law.
If you are undocumented and get arrested, you risk an Obligation to Leave French Territory (OQTF) and, sometimes, an assignment to residence or detention in an Administrative Detention Center (CRA).
